The Mayor, who is chosen on a separate ballot
for a four year term and who is full-time, presides over meetings
of the Council. The Mayor serves as the ceremonial head of
government. The Mayor does not have voting rights pertaining
to legislation, but can veto Council actions. The executive
and administrative powers of the city fall under the Mayor.
He/She directs the appointment of all departmental directors
and vacant seats on Boards or Commissions for a Council vote.
The Mayor of Olmsted Falls also acts as the Safety Director
for the city.
The Clerk of Council serves the Council body
in an administrative capacity. The Clerk takes meeting minutes
at all Council meetings and serves as a secretary to some
board meetings. The Clerk also serves as a daily liaison,
on behalf of the part-time Council, to the city’s residents.
