The Mayor's Court was established in 1987. The operation of a local court is a privilege that allows adult residents a convenient way to resolve traffic and/or misdemeanor offenses. The Mayor's Court staff includes a part-time Magistrate and a part-time Prosecutor who adhere to the educational requirements set forth by the State of Ohio, and a full-time Mayor's Court Clerk. In addition to convenience, a local court enables the City to keep more of the revenue generated by traffic and misdemeanor citations than it would receive if the cases were heard in a municipal court. The ability to set the fines and costs locally keeps court costs to a minimum. Local courts do not have the expenditures that municipal courts have.
All fines, administrative fees, and City costs that are collected are distributed to the City's general fund on a monthly basis. State costs are distributed to the State on a monthly basis as required by the Ohio Revised Code.
The Court convenes on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, except were a holiday would interfere with the normal operation of the Court. Following is the Court schedule for the current year. |
